Blown Away
So, through some sheer fluke I managed to bag an ebay bargain. How often is it that you get one over on the ebay touts! I got two tickets for the Guillemots at the Astoria for a mere £12+postage. The equivilant of buy one get one free! So Abi (my super gigging buddy!) and I headed off to London to see the Guillemots last night. This follow a superbnight at a private members bar on the guest list seeing Rick Astley! (if you want to know more, you'll have to ask, I don't like to brag, much!) I don't even know where to start with this. They blew me away. They are so uniquely different to anything else I have ever seen. They were just outstanding. Here is a list of things I loved about the Guillemots Live.one; Fyfe Dangerfield (THAT is a name, and HE is a genius)two; His smoking jacket/trimmed down dressing gown/my gran knitted this coatthree; His hatfour; His amazing, all over the place hairfive; His seat - no piano stall for him, a non-rocking rocking chairsix; The"do not bend" sign on the keyboardseven; The Fairy Lights on the keyboardeight; The glow stick-esq wires used on the keyboardnine; The disco ballten; The Eclispe that was created by the disco ball and the way it all looked like starseleven; This wierd machine like you get in science museums where you wave your hand in seemingly thin air and it makes noisetwelve; The fact that said machine was then used as a hat standthirteen; That the roadies randomly stood around having a cigarettefourteen; The wierd guys dressed up as devilsfifteen; The use of a loud hailersixteen; The use of dustbin lidsseventeen; That the album is called Through the Windowpane and the backdrop was a huge windowpane and EVERY song had some crazy different animation in the windowpane - disco grandad, walking snail, piano chasing dragoneighteen; The double bass lady's amazing backless frock and fearless double bassingnineteen; The drummers nightie/choker combotwenty; The huge carnival atmosphere at the end for Sao Paolo If you only ever go to one gig make it the Guillemots. They are something else completely.
